How to Check SASSA R370 SRD Application Status?

SASSA offers many options when it comes to checking the grant status. You can go with online methods and choose without internet as well. All the methods are easy, so you can pick one that suits you.

I will start with one of the most common and easiest methods and then proceed to the next ones. Here we go, felas!

1) SASSA SRD Services Portal SRD.SASSA.GOV.ZA

This is my personal favorite and easiest method to get your grant status. The portal has a very clean and user-friendly interface, so you can access your application status in no time. I always use this method to get my R370 status. So here is how to use this method.

  1. Pick up your South African ID in your hand and your mobile phone as well.
  2. Now connect your device, like a laptop or smartphone, to the internet or use airtime to navigate to the SRD services portal. Click here to visit the portal directly: srd.sassa.gov.za
  3. On the homepage of the portal, you will interact with two major options:
    1. South African ID Holders
    2. Asylum Seeker/Special Permit Holder
  4. Choose the option that matches your status of citizenship or ID type.
  5. Now you will proceed to the next page, where you need to click on “Check my application status”.
  6. Finally, you will be at the SASSA status check page and need to enter your ID and phone number inside the status check tool.
  7. Soon, you enter the details, and the status will be on your device’s screen.

2) SASSA Status Check on Moya App (Umoya)

Now I am sharing a method that requires no airtime, but you can still check the status online. This is my second favorite method, and I use it whenever I run out of airtime or mobile data. So here is what it takes:

  1. Download the Moya App from your preferred app store. You can get it from both Google and the Apple App Store.
  2. Once you have downloaded the app, you need to create an account using your mobile phone number, so create it.
  3. Now log in and go to the “Discover” section located at the bottom of the app.
  4. Go to Services > SRD R350 Datafree and then follow the link.
  5. Enter your South African ID number and phone number to get your status without using any airtime data.

3) SRD Status Check on WhatsApp Communication Chat

Now the third option is to use WhatsApp for your status check method. This method involves airtime and the WhatsApp application installed on your smartphone. Let’s assume you already have an active WhatsApp account, so proceed to the method.

  1. Open your phone’s dialer and dial 0820468553 and save it as the SASSA SRD grant number.
  2. Now launch the WhatsApp app and go to a new chat.
  3. Choose “SASSA SRD grant” as your recipient to start the communication.
  4. Send your first message as “I SASSA, I need to check my SASSA payment status” and send this.
  5. After a while, you will receive a reply with the message “Please follow this link to get your SRD grant application status online. So follow that special URL.
  6. Enter your ID and phone number inside the tool and get the status.

4) SRD Grant Application Status on GovChat Platform

GovChat is a government services platform that has more than 9 million active users. They have already processed the 13 million+ SASSA applications. So this is a very useful portal from the government of South Africa.

Checking your status on GovChat is a bit tricky; however, I have made it easy for you. Here is how:

1) Visit the www.govchat.org Website:

You need to visit the official GovChat website, where you can start the status check process. You will get the three options:

  • GovChat App
  • GovChat Messenger
  • GovChat WhatsApp

Now it is up to you which method you choose to check the grant status.

2) Prepare with what you need first:

  • Your 13-digit South African ID number.
  • The phone number you used when you applied for the SRD grant.

3) Check Payment Status:

Now you need to enter your phone and ID number to get the status.

5) USSD Code for SASSA Status Check

I am aware of the truth that 20% of the population is not using any kind of smartphone. So that is why I added this method. This method requires no internet, no smartphone, no apps. All you need is a cell phone and an active mobile network.

  1. Dial *134*7737# from your cell phone, press the call button, and a dialogue will appear on your screen.
  2. You will get the following options on your screen:
    1. COVID-19 SRD R370 Grant Status
    2. SASSA SRD Balance Status
    3. Appeal Application Status
    4. Get the nearest SASSA office location
  3. Proceed with 1st option and press 1 and reply.
  4. Now another screen appears where you will be asked to enter your ID number and phone number and send via reply.
  5. Your application status will be shown on your cell phone’s screen.

Check Your SASSA e-KYC Status

Now every SASSA grant applicant has to pass the SASSA e-KYC verification before getting the grant payment. If you haven’t performed your KYC yet then do it right now to avoid any payment delay. However those who have already completed their SRD grant biometric verification can check their e-KYC status online.

Why e-KYC Is Mandatory Now for SASSA Grant Payments?

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) now requires e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) verification before processing grant payments. Here’s why this step is important:

  • Stop Fraud: e-KYC helps SASSA confirm the identity of each applicant. This stops fake people from claiming grants.
  • Keep Your Data Safe: It makes sure that your personal details are secure and cannot be misused.
  • Make the System Digital: SASSA is moving towards a fully digital system. e-KYC is part of this modern process.
  • Make Sure You Are Real: With biometric verification, SASSA knows you are a real person and not using someone else’s ID.
  • Speed Up the Process: e-KYC reduces the time needed to approve and pay the grants.
  • Avoid Delays: Without e-KYC, your payments may stop or get delayed. Doing it ensures smooth monthly payments.
  • Clean the Database: SASSA wants to remove duplicate or inactive accounts. e-KYC helps update their records.

What Kind of Unemployment Status Makes Your Eligible for SASSA Payment?

To be eligible for the SASSA grant, your unemployment status must be due to reasons beyond your control.

Lost a Job:

This includes individuals who lost their jobs through no fault of their own, such as retrenchments, company closures, or economic downturns. If you were laid off due to financial difficulties faced by your employer, you qualify since your unemployment was involuntary.

Unemployment Due to the Effects of COVID-19:

Another qualifying factor is unemployment due to the effects of COVID-19. Many businesses shut down or reduced their workforce during the pandemic, leaving workers jobless. If you lost your job or source of income because of these circumstances, you may be eligible for the grant.

Lack of Job Opportunities:

Unemployment due to a lack of job opportunities also qualifies. Some regions or industries suffer from high unemployment rates, making it difficult for individuals to secure stable jobs. If you have been actively seeking work but are unable to find employment, you meet the criteria for the grant.

Company Downsizing:

Another type is unemployment due to company downsizing or restructuring makes you eligible. Businesses often reduce staff to cut costs, leaving employees without work. If you were affected by such a situation, where your job was eliminated and you had no alternative, you may qualify for the SASSA grant.
