SASSA Appeal for Reconsideration SRD R370 Grant
Submit SASSA appeal for reconsideration if your SRD grant application is declined, failed or rejected for any reason. This appeal means that you are eligible for the SRD grant, but SASSA has declined it. You can appeal to the Department of Social Development (DSD) to verify your SRD application.
Also, all the declined applicants have to perform the SRD status check to know the exact reason for their declined application.

What is the SASSA Appeal for Reconsideration?
A SASSA appeal for reconsideration is a simple request to review your SRD R370 grant application again. You submit this appeal when SASSA declines, fails, or rejects your application.

It means you believe you qualify for the grant, but SASSA made a mistake or could not verify your details. So you ask the Department of Social Development (DSD) to check your information one more time.
Many applications get rejected because of small issues. These issues include wrong documents, income checks, identity mismatches, or bank verification problems. When you appeal, SASSA and DSD look at your application again. They confirm your ID, your income status, and other important details.
This appeal gives you a second chance to prove that you qualify for the grant. If your appeal is successful, SASSA updates your status to “Approved,” and you get your R370 payment for that month.
Lodge SASSA Appeal for Reconsideration Online
You will be happy to know that you don’t need to visit any physical SASSA or DSD offices to lodge your appeal. The whole process will be done online on the official website of DSD.
Here are the steps:
1) Gather Your Required Documents/Details:
Before you start your SASSA appeal for reconsideration, make sure you collect all the important documents and information. These items help SASSA and the Department of Social Development check your details again. Below is a clear and simple explanation of each requirement.
South African ID
You must have your valid South African ID. SASSA uses your ID number to check your identity and confirm your records. This helps them verify that the application belongs to you.
Phone number linked to your SRD grant
Use the same phone number that you used when you first applied. SASSA sends OTP codes and updates to this number. If you use a different number, you will not receive important messages.
Corrected ID document (if identity verification failed)
If your status shows “Identity Verification Failed,” it means your ID information did not match the Department of Home Affairs records. You must submit a corrected or updated ID document to fix the mismatch.
Proof of eligibility (if declined due to ineligibility)
If SASSA rejected your application because they think you are not eligible, you must provide proof. This proof can show that you have no income, no UIF benefits, or no support from other government programs. This helps SASSA understand your real financial situation and review your appeal fairly.
2) Visit DSD Portal:
Now that you have all the required stuff, you need to visit the official web portal for submission of the appeal for reconsideration. The web portal address is: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal.
Make sure you visit this website through a trusted device and internet connection to avoid any kind of data theft.
3) Lodge the Appeal:
On the official website, you will see the option of “Lodge an appeal or check appeal status”. You need to click on that button. Now, from there, your appeal application process will start.
4) Verify Your Phone Number with OTP:
SASSA will need to verify that the original person is submitting the appeal, and that is why you need to verify your phone number. Enter your phone number that is linked with the SRD grant and click on the “send pin” button to get the code. Verify your number, and that’s it.
5) Fill the Appeal Form:
Once your number is verified, SASSA will launch the appeal form that you need to fill out with the following details:
- First name, last name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Choose a month in which your application was declined.
- Choose a reason for the declined status, such as:
- Alternative_income_source_identified
- Identity_verification_failed
- Now choose the option that I have corrected all the issues, and submit your application.
SASSA Appeal Status Check
You need to know that your job is not done here. After submitting the appeal application, you need to check the status of all the appeals as well.
- Open the same DSD portal website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal
- Click on the same button “lodge and appeal or check appeal status”. This time we are going to check the status.
- Enter your South African ID number and phone number.
- Check the latest appeal application status on the screen.
1) Appeal Status Pending:
This means your application is still under process.
2) Appeal Status Declined:
Your appeal application has also been declined. The reason will be added below to your appeal status.
3) Appeal Referred to DHA:
This status means that your application is referred to the Department of Home Affairs for further verifications.
What is the TAT For Appeal Approval?
You will get the response from DSD within 60 to 90 days. During this time you can not no anything further.
What is the Role of Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) in SASSA Appeal?
The Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) reviews your SRD R370 appeal after SASSA rejects your application.
ITSAA works as a separate and fair authority. It checks your documents, your eligibility, and the reason behind the declined status. It also confirms your ID, income, and bank records.
ITSAA makes sure that SASSA followed the correct rules while assessing your application. If ITSAA finds that SASSA made a mistake, the tribunal overturns the decision and approves your appeal. If the evidence shows that you do not qualify, they uphold the declined status. The final decision comes from ITSAA.
