Offline SASSA Status Check Methods for Rural Areas Without Internet Access

I still remember the time when I grew up in a small village in the Eastern Cape. Back then, internet was a rare luxury. We had no way to go online for important tasks, especially government services.

Everything changed for me when I moved to the city in 2015. Suddenly, I could check things online, including SASSA services. Life became much easier. Yet, I often think about friends and family back in the village. Many of them still do not have internet access. I always wondere, how do they check their SASSA status?

This question inspired me to write this guide. My goal is simple: to help people in rural areas stay informed about their SASSA SRD grants without needing the internet. Here, I will explain easy ways to check your status, so you don’t have to rely on online access.

Even a small tip can make a big difference. For example, when I first helped my aunt check her SRD status over the phone, she was relieved to know her payment was approved. Moments like that reminded me how important this information is for everyone, not just city dwellers.

If you know someone who struggles to check their SASSA SRD status, share this guide with them. Let’s make sure everyone can stay updated, whether they are online or offline.

How to Check SASSA SRD R370 Grant Application Status Without Internet?

There is no need to worry if you stay off the internet most of the time. You can read this guide and learn about all the methods to check your SRD status without the internet. So let’s get started.

1) Use USSD Code

SASSA provides a special USSD code that lets you see your SRD status on your phone. Here’s how it works:

  1. Take your mobile phone and dial: *134*7737#.
  2. You will first be asked to enter your surname exactly as it appears on your ID.
  3. Next, the system will ask: Are you a person with disabilities? Choose either:
    • Yes
    • No
  4. After that, it will show a list of provinces. Select the province where you live.
  5. Within a few seconds, your SRD status will appear right on your phone screen.

2) Moya App

Another way to check your SASSA grant status without using mobile data or internet is through the Moya app. This app lets you access the SRD portal completely data-free. Here’s how to do it:

  • Download the Moya app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store on your phone.
  • Install the app and create a new account.
  • Log in and go to the app’s home screen.
  • Tap on “Discover”.
  • Then tap “Services”.
  • You will see “SRD R350 Datafree”, select it.
  • This will take you directly to the SRD portal. Enter your ID number and phone number, and you will see your grant application status instantly.
  • I remember helping my cousin use Moya for the first time. He was surprised that he didn’t need any data at all. It worked perfectly, and we got the information in seconds.

3) Send SMS to “0600 123 456”

If you don’t have a smartphone, don’t worry. You can still check your SRD status using SMS. It’s quick and easy. Here’s how:

  • Open the SMS app on your phone.
  • Type your South African ID number in a new message.
  • Send it to 0600 123 456.
  • In just a short time, you will receive your SRD status via SMS.
