Why SASSA Status Pending – What Actually is Happening?

Well, the actual happening is that the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is handling more than 8000 new applications each month. There are 9 million people who are already receiving the SRD grant in 2025.

SASSA Status Pending

Moreover, 17.4 million people are those who have applied for this grant so far. Now you can understand how much the SRD grant application number is. Millions of people are already applying for and getting the grant from the SASSA.

Hence, the agency has to manage all the applications in one month. So your application can not be processed on the same day of application.

SASSA has a dedicated system for SRD applicants that checks and handles the applications. The system, by default, puts a pending status on all the new applications until they confirm them. So this is a part of application processing, and it does not mean the application is declined.

Will SASSA Declined My Application After Pending Status?

NO! This does not mean that your application is going to get a declined status right after the pending status. However, there is also no guarantee that your application will be approved after the pending application status.

You need to understand that the pending status is a on-hold status. You submitted the application, your application got into the system, and now the system is checking the application details and verifying it while showing you a pending status.

Now, once the system clears the application verification, it will decide whether to approve or decline the application.

What is the Time for Pending Application?

There is no specific time for the pending application. However, the clients usually get the decision from the SASSA within 30 days. The maximum TAT is 90 days. If your application is pending for more than 90 days, then you need to visit the SASSA office and ask for help.

How to Fix Pending SRD Status for More Than 90 Days?

If your application is pending for more than 3 months, then you should not wait further. Here are the steps to take immediately.

1. Visit Your Nearest SASSA Office

If your SRD status stays pending for more than 90 days, you must take action. You cannot fix this online. Go to your nearest SASSA office. Carry your ID and the phone number that you used during your application. These two items help the staff find your record fast.

2. Go Straight to the Help Desk

Walk to the Help Desk once you enter the office. Tell the officer your issue. You can say, “My SRD status has been pending for more than 90 days. I need help.” Keep your explanation simple. The staff will check your file in their system.

3. Let the Officer Check Your Application

The officer will open your application. They will check if your information has reached the verification stage. Sometimes the system stops your file because of an old phone number, a slow network, or a small error in your ID details. The officer will tell you what went wrong.

4. Follow the Steps They Give You

The officer may update your phone number or resend your application. They may also ask for extra documents. Follow their steps. Keep your phone active after the visit. You should get a new update soon.

How to Deal With a Declined or Failed Status?

A declined or failed SRD status can upset you. But you still have a clear way to fix it. SASSA gives you the option to appeal your result. You do this through the DSD appeal portal.

This process helps you ask SASSA to check your application again. I once went through this step when my month showed “declined,” and the appeal fixed everything for me. So stay calm and follow this guide.

Step 1: Open the Appeal Portal

Go to the official DSD appeal page: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal. Make sure you open the link on a safe device. The page will show two main options. You can choose “Lodge an Appeal” or “Check Appeal Status.”

Step 2: Enter Your Phone Number

Click on “Lodge an Appeal.” The system will ask for your phone number. Enter the same number that you used in your SRD application. This step is important because the system links your file to this number.

Step 3: Get Your OTP or PIN

SASSA will send you an OTP or PIN. You will get it through SMS on your phone. Enter this code on the portal. The code confirms that you are the real owner of the application.

Step 4: Fill Out the Appeal Form

After verification, the appeal form will open. You will see your declined reason on the screen. Fill in the required fields. Explain why you believe the decision is wrong. Keep your message short. Give correct facts only. Do not add extra stories. The appeal team checks every detail, so honesty helps.

Step 5: Submit and Wait

Submit the form. The appeal team will review your case. This process takes time. Check your appeal status on the same portal after a few days.

F.A.Q

SASSA checks your income and details every month, so your result can change anytime.

Wait a few days because SASSA still loads your payment date into the system.

Your number may be outdated or blocked, so update it at a SASSA office.

Yes, you can send a new SRD application in the next cycle if you still qualify.

It means your bank details do not match your ID, so fix them on the SRD portal.
