How Do I Know If My SASSA Black Card Is Blocked?

Here are common reasons why your SASSA Black Card is blocked:

Incorrect PIN Entered

Entering the wrong PIN three times will automatically block your card. You will need to go to a Postbank branch to unblock it.

  7. Wait 14 to 21 days to receive your new SASSA Black Card.

SASSA Gold Card Deadline for 2026

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has extended the deadline for switching from the old Gold Card to the new Black Card. The previous cut-off date of 31 May 2026 is no longer in effect. You can keep using your Gold Card until SASSA announces a new deadline.

According to SA News, Postbank CEO Nikki Mbengashe stated that the extension will give SASSA beneficiaries more time to upgrade their cards without losing access to their grants.
