SASSA Opens SRD R370 Grant Applications for April 2025
The SASSA SRD R370 grant is now open for applications for April 2025. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has launched the SRD portal at srd.sassa.gov.za
so that new applicants can apply easily this month.
Good news! The SRD grant has been extended once more and will now continue until 31 March 2026. If you are unemployed or struggling to cover basic living costs, the R370 grant can help you support yourself or your family. Applying is quick, and you can do it from home using your phone or computer.
Mr. Themba Matlou, SASSA’s branch coordinator in Mpumalanga, confirmed that new applications for April 2025 are being accepted. When I applied last year, I noticed the portal was straightforward, and I received updates via email, which made the process less stressful.
SASSA SRD R370 Grant Applications Are Now Open for April 2025
Many people think the SRD grant will end on 31 March 2025, but that’s not true. SASSA has confirmed that the government has extended the payments until 31 March 2026.
Applications for the April 2025 SRD grant are now open. If you earn less than R624 or need financial support, you can apply and receive R370 from SASSA.
Remember, the application window is short. You need to apply quickly if you want to get the April 2025 payment. Last time I applied, I waited too long and had to check the portal twice before my payment was processed, so it really helps to submit early.
How to Apply for SRD Grant Online for April Period?
The SRD grant can only be applied for through the official SRD portal. On the portal, you will find the application form to complete. Before you start, it’s important to know that only certain people are eligible to apply.
Let’s take a look at who can apply and who cannot:
SRD Grant Eligibility Criteria (April 2025)
The South African Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is designed to help people who need financial support and meet certain conditions. Before you apply, check the following criteria to see if you qualify:
Who Can Apply?
- South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and Special Permit Holders
You can apply if you are a South African citizen, permanent resident, recognized refugee, asylum seeker with a valid section 22 permit, or hold a special permit from countries like Zimbabwe, Angola, or Lesotho. Make sure your documents are current and not expired. - Aged Between 18 and 59 Years
The SRD grant is for people aged 18 to 59. If you are under 18, you might qualify for a child support grant instead. If you are 60 or older, you should apply for an old-age pension grant. - Unemployed and Not Receiving Other Government Support
You must not have a job or earn an income from work. You also cannot receive other social grants, such as disability, child support, or old-age grants. Students receiving NSFAS support or anyone getting UIF payments, including COVID-19 relief, are not eligible. - Earning Less Than R624 Per Month
If your total income from all sources, including bank deposits, is more than R624 per month, you cannot apply. SASSA will check bank accounts to confirm this. - Living in South Africa
You must be residing in South Africa when you apply. Applicants currently outside the country are not eligible. - Not Living in a Government Institution
People living in government-funded facilities, like prisons, care homes, or rehab centers, cannot apply. The grant is only for those who manage their own daily living expenses.

- Anyone receiving other social grants, like old-age or disability grants.
- Students who get financial aid from NSFAS.
